WATER
TREATMENT SERVICES AND PROJECTS
Reverse Osmosis Plant - Kennecott Utah Copper; Bingham Canyon,
Utah
Services: Process Analysis and Development, Bench and Pilot Testing,
Engineering and Design, Construction Management and Operation of the
3 Phase Project.
HBC International conducted the pilot testing, design, construction,
operation and maintenance of Kennecott Utah Copper's reverse osmosis
demonstration plant. A full-scale plant is currently under construction
in a three phase approach with the completion scheduled for the end
of 2005. Upon completion, the plant will provide treatment of 3.5 MGD
of contaminated groundwater.
The HBC International team is providing project management and expertise
across all areas of the project from concept through construction and
operation.

Membrane Filtration
Plant - Kennecott Utah Copper; Bingham Canyon, Utah
Services: Process Development and Optimization, Solution Evaluation
and Pilot Testing, Plant Management, Safety Coordination, and Operations.
The Membrane Filtration project encompassed evaluation and pilot testing
of water treatment technologies, as well as engineering and construction
of systems to treat various waters. HBC International executed and managed
project components including the following: |
- Nano-filtration: pilot testing,
design, construction, operation and maintenance of systems to treat
leach water and acid plume water (3 MGD).
- Evaluation of disposal
options for membrane filtration concentrates.
- Pilot testing of RO filtration
for selenium contaminated groundwater.
- Evaluation of special filtration
systems (e.g. VSEP, ROCHEM).

Biological Sulfate Reduction - Kennecott Utah Copper; Bingham Canyon,
Utah
Services: Project Management, Process Analysis, Plant Operation,
Process evaluation and Optimization.
Operation of pilot plant in cooperation with the Dutch company Paques.
The project was a three year effort that included water treatment and
H2S production applications.
Passive water treatment in wetlands was also evaluated.
Biological Selenate Reduction - California State University, Fresno
Services: Project Management.
Bench-scale reactor test of biological selenate reduction to elemental
selenium under anoxic conditions in the presence of an organic carbon
source. Selenium reductions of >99% were achieved.
